Sherlock Holmes and the Vampire Invasion by Suzette Hollingsworth brings a whole new perspective to the Holmes narrative with a romantic twist for the Great Detective. Mirabella Hudson, Sherlock Holmes' 'detective intraining' is an inquisitive and resourceful young woman graced withintelligence and scientific curiosity in many ways equal to our favorite Victorian era detective. A younger Sherlock, not quite famous as yet,and Dr. Watson are called upon by older brother Mycroft Holmes toinvestigate the gruesome murder of Lord Percival. It seems Percival'sdead body had fang marks at the neck and his blood is completelydrained. Holmes and Watson are on the case, despite Scotland Yard'sPolice Constable Jones's constant objections.

Sherlock Holmes and the Vampire Invasion is book four of The GreatDetective In Love series. Author Suzette Hollingsworth manages to staytrue to the classic characters in a manner that any Holmes fan canappreciate. The dialogue is witty in fine tradition with Sir ArthurConan Doyle's style. However, it is the dynamic between Miss MirabellaHudson, the 19-year-old relative of housekeeper Mrs. Hudson, andSherlock Holmes that is fun and exciting. There is also a curiousrelationship between the Napoleon of Crime, Professor Moriarty, and Miss Hudson that sets this adventure apart from traditional Holmesmysteries. The story is a page-turner with enough twists and turns tokeep the reader engaged. Miss Mirabella Hudson is a worthy addition,adding a layer of sexual tension for our consulting detective. A funread. As Holmes would say, "Precisely."

My goal in writing historical fiction is to engage the reader in a magical journey of time travel. I am very excited about my current Sherlock Holmes series in which the Great Detective's landlady's nieceis a potential love interest amidst this Victorian mystery. SherlockHolmes is a great, fun hero to write because he is liked from the get-go despite being pompous and insufferable (or perhaps because of it!),something which might result in an unsympathetic hero in anothernarrative. While being true to the characters Conan Doyle created, the series draws on the imagery surrounding the beloved Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson (in particular, Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law),incorporates the witty banter into the relationship between Sherlock and Mirabella, and lends itself well to Steam punk, blending the "Age ofInvention" with something old-fashioned, elegant, and slower-paced.Enjoy. The game is afoot!
