The eerie isolation of the island is balanced by Lynley's home of Portland, where she has friends and family to lean on. Mollie Hunt introduces a sinister and unknown killer into Lynley's home, bringing the fear of isolation into the safety of home. A twist at the end reveals a surprising killer. The mystery is grounded in reality as Lynley's daily life is interrupted by fear when she becomes a target. The characters are down to earth, realistic and honest, reading like real people, neighbors and friends.
