The idea for this book came from an experience I had while touring the Galapagos Islands. In Puerto Ayora, I picked up the local newspaper and read the headline: Fishermen Threaten to Sink Tour Boat. Needless to say, I was alarmed, especially because I was traveling on a tour boat at the time. Because I read Spanish, I was then able to research many interesting events taking place in the Galapagos and editorial opinions from Ecuadorians about what should happen in the islands. Tourists, including me, are often oblivious to local politics and culture. And that's how Sam gets into deep, deep trouble...
