I lost my mom young like Aislin. I have fellow veterans that are my friends that suffer from debilitating PTSD. I have friends and family that have suffer sexual assault. Even though it was hard I covered all these subjects. I wish like Aislin and her friend Emma, in the second book in the series, those I care about had magic to help them deal with their issues. But there isn't, so instead I write books with characters that have been damaged but aren't broken...they survive.
